Scientific research implemented at the Faculty of Navigation concentrates in two disciplines:

• geodesy and cartography,
• transport.

The Faculty of Navigation has category 2 as per the list specified by the Minister of Science and Higher Education of 15.5.2010  for G6 units : Mining, technical geology, geodesy, power engineering and transport.

The Faculty of Navigation is authorized to confer a degree of a doctor of technical sciences in two disciplines: geodesy and cartography, and transport, as well as  a postdoctoral degree of 'doktor habilitowany' of technical sciences in transport.

The Faculty closely collaborates with maritime organizations, such as:
 

• maritime administration,
• shipowners,
• forwarding firms,
• seaport authorities.

The Faculty facilitates the development of young research staff, by promoting holders of doctoral and postdoctoral degrees.
