Tytuł: Reilability measures in GNSS multi-constellation systems sensors

Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to analyse methods and factors that describe reliability in modern GNSS systems.Design/Methodology/Approach: This analysis was conducted for several branches of human activity that rely on technical systems for assuring safe and reliable operations. Transportation, logistics, geodetical measurements, or development are just few professional activities dependent on satellite positioning. The reliability of the whole transport or technological chain is often combined with the singular reliability of satellite monitoring systems. Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are present where human activity must be backed with precise positioning and timing information. Findings: This paper will provide a review of researches in the field of GNSS on the side of the multi-constellation receiver concerning reliability issues. Practical Implications: A combination of technical criteria to mention safety, maintainability, quality, cost, risk, or availability will be addressed as a comparative analysis. Originality/Value: The results of the study reflect the applicability and effectiveness of used indicators that can contribute to many human activites. Consequently, the fundamental strength of proposed factors can contribute to many business branches where accuracy and standard measures of reliability used in single constellation (like GPS) receivers differ then multi-constellation ones where more complex reliability measures must be provided.

Tytuł: Factors Influencing the Action Point of the Collision Avoidance Manoeuvre

Abstrakt: Perhaps the most problematic issue regarding navigation safety management is the unknown, or unknowable, is the navigator’s decision made in the face of a dangerous situation. This applies particularly to collision-avoidance. The aim of the article is to identify factors that influence the moment of decision during a collision-avoidance manoeuvre and to define theoretical distributions that can be used during modelling of a navigator’s behaviour. The applicable research was divided into two stages. In the first, the distance between ships and the time to closest point of approach (TCPA) were analysed. In the second, the influence of the size of the target ships and relative speed were investigated. The advantage of the paper is its use of actual observations collected in real situations. The proposed approach allows for a better understanding of the navigator’s actual decision-making, which will be instructive in measures taken to improve navigational safety.

Tytuł: Vessel multi-parametric collision avoidance decision model: fuzzy approach

Abstract: The application of fuzzy logic is an effective approach to a variety of circumstances, including solutions to maritime anti-collision problems.The article presents an upgrade of the radar navigation system, in
particular, its collision avoidance planning tool, using a decision model that combines dynamic parameters into one decision—the collision avoidance course. In this paper, a multi-parametric decision model based on fuzzy logic is proposed. The model calculates course alteration in a collision avoidance situation. First, the model collects input data of
the target vessel and assesses the collision risk. Using time delay, four parameters are calculated for further processing as input variables for a fuzzy inference system. Then, the fuzzy logic method is used to calculate the course alteration, which considers the vessel’s safety domain and International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea
(COLREGs). The special feature of the decision model is its tuning with the results of the database of correct solutions obtained with the manual radar plotting method. The validation was carried out with six selected cases simulating encounters with the target vessel in the open sea from different angles and at any visibility. The results of the case
studies have shown that the decision model computes well in situations where the own vessel is in a give-way position. In addition, the model provides good results in situations when the target vessel violates COLREG rules. The collision avoidance planning tool can be automated and serve as a basis for further implementation of a model that considers
the manoeuvrability of the vessels, weather conditions, and multi-vessel encounter situations.

Abstract: The increasing sizes of ships determine the interest in modifying the already existing solutions. Simulation models allow us to analyse the possible modernisation options. The article presents analysis results for the width of the fairway to Ystad, marked with buoys with respect to navigation safety. After a thorough analysis, taking into account the safety of navigation, further possibilities of development have been determined. Study results are aimed at designing
new solutions in case of modernization of the approach channel to Ystad.

Abstract: Objective reasons, such as climatic changes, larger vessels, sometimes the impracticality of the current solutions, determine the interest of decision-makers in rebuilding the existingports and breakwaters. Tested simulation models allow for a thorough analysis of the possiblemodernization variants taking into account the variability of basic parameters. The article pre-sents research results related to the optimization of the Mrzezyno seaport with respect to navi-gation safety and the possibility of larger vessels calling at the port after its modernization.In the paper, real time
simulation methods based on manoeuvre simulators were applied. Two different variants that can be implemented from the technical point of view were studied. Following a multidimensional analysis that took into consideration increased comfort of ship manoeuvres in the port and navigation safety, one variant was indicated as the optimum. The aim of the research results is to help design new solutions in the caseof the modernization of the Mrzezyno seaport.

rebuilding the already existing solutions. Simulation models allow to analyse the possible modernisation variants taking into account the variability of elementary parameters. The article presents analysis results for the Przemyslowy Canal in Szczecin with respect to navigation safety and regulating traffic regulations in the Przemyslowy Canal taking into consideration the interests of all subjects involved. The paper applies real-time simulation methods based on manoeuvring simulators. After a thorough analysis that took into account the safety of navigation, further possibilities of development have been determined. Study results are aimed at designing new solutions in case of modernization of the Przemyslowy Canal in Szczecin.

Abstract: This article presents the underlying concepts of a mathematical model optimizing the routes of vessels carrying dangerous goods proceeding in the vicinity of passenger ferries. The method is based on the estimated risk of collision between a chemical tanker and a passenger vessel. Risk assessment was performed using three models. The
first model determines the distance of the passing ships on the selected area on the basis of the AIS data. The second one is a stochastic model of navigational safety assessment, which provides statistical data on the probability of collision between the two chosen types of vessels. The third model determines the consequences of collisions between passenger ships and chemical tankers. The study defines the scope of the parameters affecting the objective function of
vessel route optimization and their importance in the optimization problem.

Abstract: The ecological protection of the Baltic Sea against extremely noxious pollution by chemical substances is one of the major issues faced by the states that are located on its shore. In this article, the transport of chemicals in bulk has been analysed. An attempt has been made at grouping dangerous chemical substances based on their negative impact on the environment. Databases that were available have been studied with respect to various chemicals transported in the seaports of Szczecin and Świnoujście. Based on the data available, an attempt at analysing the traffic of tankers carrying noxious chemical substances has been taken up.
